COVID-19 testing for border patrol agents along the U.S./Canada border and a “family travel exemption” between the two countries are two of the recommendations representatives offered the Biden administration. The Northern Border Caucus, which includes House members from northern New York, is asking the president to allow a more open border and create a U.S. version of the family exemption that Canada already has. As well, boaters should be allowed to drift back and forth over the border so long they don’t dock, a story in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise says.
Fort Drum is changing its planned use of the Adirondacks, the Adirondack Explorer says. The Army’s 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum in Watertown, looked hypothetically, the Army said, at a number of locations to conduct off-base training and has decided against any that include protected areas of the Adirondack Park, such as wilderness and canoe areas, the story says.
