Through their nonprofit arm, GlobalFoundries of Malta is giving away nearly $143,000 in grants to Saratoga-area nonprofits, schools and other projects, the Saratogian is reporting.
The Adirondack Foundation has given away $1.2 million since March, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. The economic sectors covered include food assistance, health and wellness, shelter, education and community vitality, the story says.
The Workforce Development Institute has given Albany City Schools 100 Chromebooks (a type of laptop computer) to help close the digital divide, the Times-Union is reporting this morning. The computers will go to students in the career and technical education programs. This donation is in addition to a $75,000 donation for technology from Hannaford Supermarkets. The Albany school system has been struggling to get computers into the hands of students learning from home since July, the story says.

The militaries of Canada and the United States, longtime allies protecting North American skies, will once again coordinate a military exercise on Dec. 24. Starting at 4 p.m. on the east coast, the governments, led by NORAD, will track Santa Claus, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. National Guard personnel out of Rome, N.Y., working with the Royal Canadian Air Force, will participate, and anyone can receive updates by calling 1-877-Hi-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) or by asking their smart speakers to check on the jolly 'ol elf.
