Cool Insuring Agency has been sold to the Arthur J. Gallagher & Co, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The firm was founded in 1857 by Charles W. Cool, the first mayor of Glens Falls and is the third largest property and casualty, and the eighth largest health insurance carrier in the region. In August, the ABJ reported, insurance brokerage Rose and Kiernan was purchased by the New York City firm, NFP. Also announced over the weekend in the ABJ, Marshall & Sterling Insurance of Poughkeepsie will close on a purchase of Jaeger & Flynn Associates Inc., on Jan. 1. Jaeger has offices in Clifton Park, Saratoga and Glens Falls.
Residential Real Estate
Some residents along Dean Road in Kingbury are worried that a 252 unit apartment complex will hurt home values, increase traffic and ruin the rural feel of the location a mile from Dix Ave, a story in the Post-Star says. The units would be spread over nine buildings and is being proposed by a lawyer who is a local developer.
Higher Education
For the second time in five years, the College of Saint Rose is cutting two dozen programs, this time in the arts and music, the Times-Union is reporting. The cuts include over 40 full-time faculty and some administrative budgets. The cuts were brought on by financial difficulties before the pandemic and exacerbated by the pandemic, the story says.
Healthcare and Fitness
The north country’s Adirondack Health system is cutting back on in-person visits, and all staff will wear N-95 masks, goggles and face shields, the Adirondack Daily News is reporting.
