Octogenarian Ron Hintz builds picnic tables in a pinch, the Post-Star is reporting this morning. The retired mechanical engineer lives at the Washington Center in Argyle and has built two tables for the center with the help of staff in recent months. He stepped in with money and expertise when the budget for tables was cut due to the coronavirus’ effect on the economy, the paper says. The center needs places for residents to sit outdoors.
A retired Corinth veteran got a new roof thanks to Owens Corning's Roof Deployment Project, a story in the Saratogian says. The company provides materials and works with local contractors--in this case, Pinnacle Roofing, Inc. and nonprofit Rebuilding Together Saratoga County--to put a roof on a house in need. Owens Corning makes construction materials.

Toadflax Farms in Washington County is suing the Washington County Sheriff’s Department for killing their legally-grown hemp plants, the Post-Star is reporting this morning. According to the lawsuit, the nursery, with a retail location on Route 9 in South Glens Falls, had tagged the plants on their farm in Kingsbury with their license number and the farm’s name, but deputies pulled them up anyway, the lawsuit says.

Reopening the U.S.-Canada border might occur in the spring, if a group can help find a way to do it, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. The Wilson Center, a Washington D.C. think tank, is working with leaders in the U.S. and Canada to find a way to open the border to nonessential travel by March 2021. It has been closed since last March. This is giving north country leaders hope, the article says.

The Lake Placid News and the Adirondack Daily Enterprise will train local businesses how to write effective press releases, the ADE is reporting this morning. Two online training sessions in December will include writing and distribution essentials and are aimed at small businesses that may not have the budget, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, to pay for professional public relations services.
