Behavioral Health Services North buys Queensbury building
Behavioral Health Services North, a Plattsburgh firm, bought a two-story Queensbury medical office building on Willowbrook Road for $2.85 million, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The 36,000-square-foot office building, built and owned by Schermerhorn Commercial Holdings, has been home to a Glens Falls Hospital program and North Country Sports Medicine. Behavioral Health Services North now runs outpatient substance abuse, mental health treatment and other services for the hospital, the story says.
Local lights in Holland Tunnel
Halfmoon's G&G Industrial Lighting, which makes LED bulbs for extreme conditions, is expecting revenue to nearly double to $21 million this year, a story in the Albany Business Journal says. The company expects to sell 50,000 units including those to replace lights in New York City’s Holland Tunnel. The Port Authority chose G&G because their lights offer low maintenance and low interference with radio signals in the tunnel, the story says.
Too many visitors, not enough staff
Adirondack hamlets, such as Old Forge and Inlet, are seeing “July-4th-sized” tourism, but shops are greeting them with September-level staffing, the Adirondack Explorer says. Many businesses have increased wages to $17 or $20 per hour, have offered free housing and end-of-season bonuses to attract and keep staff, the story says.
This Old House in Saratoga Springs
The TV show This Old House is filming the redevelopment of a Saratoga Springs home that has been in one family since 1864, the Times Union is reporting. The Dutch Colonial home owned by Evan and Whitney Williamson will get a full gutting and rebuild by contractor Whitbeck Construction the story says.
Masks at school
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, says it is OK for schools in the state to require masks when students return to classrooms this fall, the Times-Union is reporting via the Associated Press. The story reports that she does not have the authority to require the masks yet, but expects to have it in days. Also, schools in areas with low COVID rates will be able to avoid the mandate. Hochul will take over the governor’s seat next Tuesday when the current Gov. Andrew Cuomo steps down amid a sexual misconduct crisis.
