Moreau hears marijuana plan
Moreau may see a marijuana farm and processing plant, according to a story in the Albany Business Journal. Plans to build the $4 million, 30,000 square foot building along Route 9 about halfway between Northway Exit 17 and the Village of South Glens Falls were outlined at the Moreau Planning Board Monday evening, the story says. The farm would use about five or six acres of land. Cerrone Builders are working with a company that has grown cannabis in Massachusetts.
Med group hires CTO
Albany Medical system hired a Chief Technology Officer to coordinate an organization-wide combination of the technological systems in their four separate medical facilities: Albany Medical Center, Saratoga Hospital, Glens Falls Hospital and Columbia Memorial Hospital, the ABJ says. Mobile sports betting bashed
New York wants mobile sports betting, but not the way Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing it, the Times Union is reporting. Lawmakers want lower tax rates than the governor is proposing in order to draw more companies. The application process is too complex, also, they said. Gaming committee lawmakers suggested a 12% tax rate on the amount wagered by smart phone. Cuomo proposed 50%. New Hampshire, at 51%, made no money from Super Bowl betting last year, the lawmakers say.
Warrensburg looking at historic designation
Warrensburg may stop demolition in the town’s historic district until the town builds a zoning code that can prevent the loss of historic buildings, the Post-Star is reporting. A comprehensive plan updated in 2019 has guidelines, but they are not always followed, and without the force of law, they might not be. Board member Rich Larkin will bring a full resolution to the September meeting.
Mark French remembered
“Mark C. French survived pancreatic cancer. But the 6-foot-5-inch retired corrections officer, who his best friend Kevin Gordon said had grown weak from surgery and treatment, didn’t survive a visit to a Caroline Street bar to celebrate his race track winnings,” a story in the Times Union says. In a profile of the man beaten to death in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, his friend describes a thoughtful, helpful man who was defending his son in an unprovoked fight on the street. Jordan Garafalo and James Garafalo were arrested within hours.
