Men’s store opening in Saratoga Springs
Leisure clothes popular during the pandemic are making space for suits, says a story in the Albany Business Journal, as Mark Thomas Men’s Apparel will open a store at 385 Broadway. It’s not just retail space that is needed, either, but space around the waistline. As men try on business outfits that do not fit after 18 months of no exercise and too much food, they are finding a need for new or tailored clothing, the story says.
Delta variant taking hold in Albany
Albany County averaged 54.34 new cases coronavirus per 100,000 residents as of Saturday. That level suggests indoor mask-wearing under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, a story in the Times-Union says. The CDC had said vaccinated people did not need to wear a mask indoors, but they have shifted that as the Delta variant of the virus has risen and may be spread by vaccinated people to the unvaccinated. Although vaccinated people can get the Delta variant, it tends to be much less dangerous.
Queensbury native, instagram influencer stars in HGTV show
Elizabeth Solomon Finkelstein grew up in an old house in Queensbury and has made a career of it, the Post-Star says. “Cheap Old Houses,” a 10-episode series premiers Aug. 9 on HGTV and Discover+. In each episode, cameras follow the couple across the country as they tour low-priced older homes and choose ones to feature on their instagram site. They share stories about the homes’ histories and architectural uniqueness, the story says.
Redistricting Commission seeks input
Also in the T-U: “The New York State Independent Redistricting Commission is seeking input on a once-in-a-decade process of redrawing political boundaries that often can have an outsized influence on local and state politics. The public meeting is at 2 p.m. Monday for people in the Capital Region and Mid-Hudson Valley to provide insight into their congressional districts, as well as their state Assembly and Senate districts.”
