Two Capital Region firms raised $100 million with help from state programs and the hard work of Eben Bayer, the ABJ is reporting. Ecovative and Atlast, the former takes mycelium from mushrooms to be used in a host of products, and the latter, a spin-off of Ecovative, makes vegan bacon that sells. Investors are happy to support what sells, the story says.

The former blacksmith building at the bottom of Glen Street in Glens Falls may become a pot dispensary, the Post-Star is reporting. Robin Barkenhagen and Brian Bronzino, who owns the building 56 Glen, will bring the idea to the Glens Falls Planning Board on Tuesday, the story says.

Saratoga Hospital was named one of the world’s best by Newsweek magazine, the Saratogian is reporting. Six hospitals in New York won that distinction. Saratoga hospital, with 171 beds, is the smallest and the only community-based hospital. Newsweek used three points in their consideration: recommendations from medical experts, results from patient surveys and medical key performance indicators for hospitals.

Skiers came out this winter, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise reported. Despite COVID restrictions, the skiers hit the slopes in higher numbers than usual at the New York-owned ski areas. Gore, Whiteface and Belleayre mountains reported a 14% increase of skiers and snowboarders over the 2019-2020 season and a 25% jump in season passes.
