The New York State legislature is looking to roll-back some of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-realated rules and guidelines, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. One rule to go is the “no food, no alcohol” rule that says patrons must buy food with any alcoholic beverage, the story says. Joe Gross, founder of Gross Electric, has purchased Lake George property--just off Northway Exit 21--and plans to build a townhouse and apartment community there, the ABJ says. Gross is looking at a potential mixed-use development with housing and some retail, the story says.
The Village of Saranac Lake scaled back a purchase of short-term rental software after public comment, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. The board voted to buy the software from Rentalscape that scans and collects data on short-term rentals from sites like Adirondack by Owner and Airbnb, but they stopped short of purchasing the rest of the package, the story says.
Manufacturing, Agriculture and Forestry
Also in the ADE: the Adirondack Council gave farmers and other food producers $29,601 in microgrants on Earth Day. The story says that the selected projects include “composting units for local food waste recycling, an electric-assist cargo-bike, cover cropping and energy-efficient equipment.”
Environment, Energy and Sustainability
A former mine in the Adirondacks will become a solar energy park, the Adirondack Explorer is reporting this morning. The 130-acre, 20 megawatt solar plant will create about 100 jobs and power 4,500 homes. It comes as an agreement between Benson Mines and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The location in St. Lawrence County is the site of a former iron-ore mine and is one of the few places in the Adirondack Park zoned for industrial work, the story says.
