Led by Global Foundaries, the Capital Region is among the fastest growing tech exporters in the nation, the Albany Business Journal says. The Center for Economic Growth conducted a study of International Trade Administration data and found the Albany area exported $7.3 billion in technology- and computer-related products in 2019, the story says.
The Post-Star this morning is running an update to the issue with North Country broadband. The story focuses on the Biden administration’s plan to get broadband everywhere and how localities are trying to make maps that will show holes in the coverage.
Tucked into the New York State budget is a requirement that forces larger internet service providers, such as Charter Communications (the parent company of Spectrum cable, internet and phone) to provide broadband to the neediest people at the low price of $15 per month, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. The story says that households whose children receive free or reduced lunches at school have already qualified for this if they use Spectrum internet, but that the law expands it to other types of people receiving aid for such things as utilities and expands it to any company providing broadband internet to at least 20,000 homes.
