County’s personnel committee gives nod to GF attorney
A Warren County committee has voted to make Glens Falls attorney Larry Elmen the county’s attorney. The nomination must will before the full county board. After county attorney Mary Kissane resigned in April, Assistant County Attorney Robert Terwilliger has been serving. Elmen would fill the role permanently, a story in the Post-Star says.
Spa Little Theater in disrepair
The Home Made Theater Company has left the Spa Little Theater because the venue is in disrepair—problems with air filtration, leaking toilets, a ceiling falling in, for example—and the disrepair has caused some damage to props, the Daily Gazette is reporting. The company’s general manager explained in a letter to patrons that the decision did not come easily, and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has been helpful and is looking at repair needs. The company has no permanent home but will perform “Moonlight and Magnolias” at Saratoga Arts’ Dee Sarno Theater, the story says.
Letters show manipulation, cult-like atmosphere
Unsealed letters surrounding the NXIVM cult of Colonie argue that the second-in-command to founder Keith Raniere should be given some leeway because he was a master manipulator, the Times Union is reporting. Letters from Nancy Salzman’s daughter—Nancy Salzman was number two and a co-founder of NXIVM—included pleas for mercy to the judge. She was given a 3-and-a-half year sentence.
Border with Canada to open
The Biden administration will lift travel restrictions in November for fully vaccinated people at the Canadian and Mexican borders. Foreign travelers must provide proof of vaccination, the New York Times says. Unvaccinated people will not be allowed entry, the story says.
