French food safety firm buys into Saratoga
French food safety company Kersia is purchasing a majority stake in Saratoga Springs’ manufacturer AgroChem. The deal was announced Thursday, a story in the Albany Business Journal says. AgroChem makes cleansers and sanitizers for farms, commercial laundries and manufacturers. Kersia is a 36-year-old biosecurity, hygiene and disinfection company, the story says.
GFPD plan moving forward
Glens Falls leadership is looking into using federal pandemic relief funds to hire a police department social worker. This is part of the city's police reform plan adopted earlier this year. Much of the city’s 10-page plan focuses on increasing transparency and tackling mental health issues, a story in the Post-Star says. The department is working with the county to draft a job description for the new position while some other policy changes have stagnated due to budget concerns, the story says.
Heating bills to rise
National Grid says the average residential customer will pay $155 more this winter, up 31%, than they did last, a story in Times Union says. It is the largest increase for the five-month season in a decade. Wholesale natural gas prices have nearly doubled this year as the economy has started to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic amid tight gas supplies.
Hochul’s picks filling offices
Also in the Times Union, some state officials are moving on this week as they make room for Gov. Kathy Hochul’s appointments. Expected departures: commissioners and others appointed by former Gov. Andrew Cuomo at the Department of Health, Division of Criminal Justice Services, Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, Office of General Services, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and the state's ethics commission, the story says.
