Kim files ethics complaint with Owen West campaign over potential falsehoods
The Saratoga Springs Democratic Party claims in an ethics complaint that statements on a Republican mailer are lies. The mailer says that Democratic candidate Ron Kim does not live in the city and has not paid overdue office rent. The Democrats also contend that the mailer’s “paid for by” disclosure is not legible, a flouting of election law, a story in the Times Union says. Officials with Heidi Owen West’s campaign said they are following the law. Kim and West are running for mayor.
Airport Park may get bakery
Bucks County Biscotti Co. hopes to build a $1 million, USDA-approved, bakery in the Airport Industrial Park in Kingsbury. The company bakes wholesale and retail biscotti and is outgrowing its location in Hilltown, Penn., the Albany Business Journal says. At 5,000 square feet, the new location will be as much as four times larger than buildings the company currently owns.
Albany wants a woke bank
The City of Albany is looking for a bank to handle deposits, and the city is asking that each applicant give specific examples of what it has done for the community, especially around community improvement and racial justice. The idea is to get corporations to think more about correcting systemic racism and to help revitalize rundown portions of the city, a story in the Albany Business Journal says.
Ft Edward Schools will not merge with S. Glens Falls
The Fort Edward Board of Education voted not to merge with a South Glens Falls schools, after 18 months of discussion on the topic, the Post-Star is reporting. Cheers from parents and students in the gallery broke out after the vote. One board member said he wondered about the likelihood of winning state aid and of losing the identity of the town, and that outweighed the promise of lower taxes.
Saratoga Candy Co is moving around the corner
The maker of the Saratoga’s peppermint pig, the Saratoga Candy Co., is moving from Washington Street around the corner to Broadway in order to make room for the Aldelphi Hotel’s massive $50 million renovation which includes razing the candy company’s building, the Times Union says.
Mini Mart reopens near Paul Smith’s College
The Brighton Mini Mart near Paul Smith’s College is open once again, under the co-ownership of Jon Waldrop and Lauren Parmington, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise is reporting. Waldrop is a Paul Smith’s grad and former customer of the store, which has seen many owners. He reopened the store to give it stability and to offer the gas and other essentials that people need in that area.
