Munter brothers buys 389 B’way
Brothers John Munter and Mike Munter have purchased 389 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. The site, a 3,400-square-foot building, housed the former Saratoga Stadium. They paid $1.54 million, a story in the Albany Business Journal says. The story says the buyers have a restaurateur in the offing.
Bail may get another viewing
Changes to the bail law came under scrutiny during the mayoral race in New York City, with the winner, mayor-elect Eric Adams joining many Republicans who say the plan is not working properly, a story in the Times Union says. Gov. Kathy Hochul has said she is talking about reforming the law, which detractors say are letting dangerous people out of jail too quickly, the story says.
Merlino loses, likely, by five votes
Lake Luzerne Supervisor Gene Merlino may have lost his reelection by just 5 votes, after absentee ballots were counted Monday, the Post-Star is reporting. The incumbent supervisor ran a write-in campaign. Official results are not due until next week. On election night, Merlino fell behind Dan Waterhouse by 15 votes, but 54 absentee ballots had yet to be counted, the story says. Merlino has not officially conceded.
MVP wins bid for arena name
The Times Union Center will soon become the MVP Health Care center, the Daily Gazette is reporting. The downtown Albany sports and performance venue now known as the Times Union Center will soon bear the name of MVP Health Care. Albany County, which owns the building, announced the decision Monday. MVP will pay $2 million a year for five-years. The first $600,000 goes to the county, and $1.4 million for community health across the region. With approval from the county legislature, the change will occur Jan. 1, 2022.
Gone but won’t be forgotten
Politico reported yesterday that former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in disgrace may be out of office, but he is not out of political clout, and he is not afraid to use it. His lawyer wants new material added to already-conclued investigations. Public opinion pollsters keep him in the mix. Albany insiders are trying to focus on the new Governor, Kathy Hochul, and on New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams, but they worry that Cuomo might run for office next year, or imprint his desires on the races, the story says.
Stillwater supervisor wants trash trains gone, again
Train company Pan Am, has a rail yard just outside Stillwater in Saratoga County and has a contract to pick up residential and commercial trash in the Capital Region, a story in the Times Union says. They ship the trash to South Carolina. To get the trash there, they must work with other train companies to bring the trash the rest of the way. Norfolk Southern, one of the train companies involved, is having delays in taking the trash to its final destination, and supervisor Ed Kinowski has complained to the state and federal departments of transportation.
