The Warren-Washington County Industrial Development Agency approved a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement for a cannabis growing project outside Cambridge that will save growers, Flyin' Dutch Enterprises LLC, $242,275 over 10 years and $192,500 in sales tax exemptions on equipment and materials, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. Flyin’ Dutch purchased the 3.37 acre former Morcon Tissue paper site last month.
Ft. Edward Schools looks for leader
Fort Edward Schools started to search for a new superintendent, the Post-Star is reporting this morning. The school system hopes soon to have an online survey to collect residents’ thoughts, and a job description to focus the search, the story says. They are planning public forums for early in the new year, the story says.
Limited broadband hurts rural, elderly
Proportionally, the Mohawk Valley has only about 55% of the primary care doctors that Long Island has. Couple that with the lower access to broadband internet in the North Country, and the challenges facing the elderly upstate comes into view, says an AARP report, summarized in the Daily Gazette. One million New Yorkers over 50 live in rural areas, the story says, and they are more likely than urban residents to die prematurely from heart disease, cancer, unintentional injury, chronic lower respiratory disease and stroke.
Adks: New Cell Tower proposed
Cingular Wireless PSC, doing business as AT&T Mobility, has proposed to build a wireless communications facility in Edinburg, near the Great Sacandaga Lake, the Daily Gazette is reporting. The facility would include a tower that will look like a “simulated tree,” antennas, ground equipment, a generator and a chain link fence. The proposed site is on private land. The Adirondack Park Agency is considering the proposal.
Saranac loses Tops, gains Grand Union
The Tops Markets grocery store on Church Street in Saranac Lake will become a Grand Union once again after the merger of Tops Markets and Price Chopper/Market 32. The merger approved yesterday requires the combined company to divest 12 stores. C&S Wholesale Grocers is purchasing the 12 stores and reviving the long-defunct Grand Union Supermarkets brand, says a story in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. Grand reopenings are planned for January and February, the story says.
