Lake George: Huddle Bay Motel and Cottages sold
A technology executive from Schenectady and his partners have purchased Huddle Bay Motel and Cottages in the Town of Bolton on Lake George, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The story says that strong demand for short-term rentals on Lake George prompted the purchase, and the buyer’s group is not done yet. They are under contract to buy a second Lake George resort.
Hotel owners relocate to Spa City
The Mirbeau Cos., purchased 53 Spring St. in Saratoga Springs and plan to move their headquarters there, the Albany Business Journal reports. Mirbeau is a family-run hotel and spa management and development company, and has properties in New York and Massachusetts, the story says. Their headquarters had been in the Finger Lakes region and then in upstairs offices on Broadway, the story says.
Gaffney’s liquor license suspended
The New York State Liquor Authority on Tuesday suspended the license of Gaffney’s bar in Saratoga Springs, the Daily Gazette is reporting. The suspension is tied to the violent altercations which have occurred in or near Gaffney’s, a popular bar in the city’s downtown district. The suspension comes after numerous police reports that have originated from the bar, the story says. The bar was already closed because two checks sent to city hall to cover fees bounced, the Times Union reported yesterday. The bar is not allowed to serve alcohol until the license is reinstated, the story says. They are due to have a hearing with the SLA.
Hochul taps Antonio Delgado to be Lt. Gov.
Gov. Kathy Hochul selected Schenectady native Antonio Delgado to replace Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin, who was arrested in April on charges of bribery and campaign finance fraud, the Times Union is reporting. The T-Union also has a story on his Schenectady connections here. Benjamin has been stripped from the ballot to run this fall. Delgado, a two-term Hudson Valley congressman is a former basketball star, Rhodes scholar and Harvard Law School graduate, the stories say.
Plattsburgh under development
The Town of Plattsburgh has approved 326,583 square feet of new commercial and industrial construction, plus 10 permits for single-family development, this year a story in the Adirondack Sun says. The town has been planning and expecting this, officials told the news website. They credited their work planning through the pandemic that led to projects this year, but it was building roads and sewer to the old county airport, starting in 2016, that spurred the development, the story says.
