Expanded Subway for Outlet mall
Subway franchisee Russ Faden wants to build an 8,950-square-foot building including a couple restaurants, some retail space and a self-storage facility on Route 9 in northern Queensbury near the Outlet malls, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The location is just south of Route 149. Faden must first buy the property after winning approval for the plans.
Bank robber still on the lam
Glens Falls police are still searching for the person who robbed the Glens Falls National Bank on Broad Street Monday, the Post-Star is reporting this morning. The suspect is a white man between 5 feet and 5 feet, 4 inches tall, wearing a tan jacket, green pants with a white logo on the left leg, a camouflage bandana, a gray hoodie and dark sunglasses, the story says.
UAlbany not talking about investigation
UAlbany officials are not talking about an alleged incident of physical contact between men’s basketball head coach Dwayne Killings and a player, identified by the team’s play-by-play announcer as Luke Fizulich, the Daily Gazette is reporting. Fizulich has entered the NCAA transfer portal since the season ended. UAlbany has said that they are aware of the alleged incident and are investigating, the story says.
Current Bishop says truth takes time to heal
Edward Scharfenberger, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, says in a Times Union story that the church and families must grieve as they deal with the truth that former Bishop Howard Hubbard covered-up accusations of sexual assault and abuse by priests against children in their parishes. Hubbard often sent priests for therapy and then let them back into positions where they would be near children, the story says. The story quotes the current bishop: “Families, like individuals, are 'as sick as their secrets'."
JRN Construction owner charged with felony
The state’s inspector general’s office alleges that JRN owner Leroy Nelson worked on a project at UAlbany without providing workers' compensation insurance, the Times Union reported earlier this week. He was convicted in 2019 of a similar crime in Amsterdam, the story says, and that pushes his new charge from a Class E to a Class D felony.
