Springs: West Ave condos in a hot market
The high-end, but lower priced, luxury condos on West Avenue in Saratoga Springs are selling fast now, says a story in the Albany Business Journal. The 34 units in The West, at 116 West Ave., will be sold by year’s end, the developer says, but he could never do it now, at least without raising prices by 30% to 40%, the story says. Thank you pandemic-induced inflation. Twenty of the 34 units have sold at prices below that of equivalent condos downtown, the story says.
NYS and offshore wind
Also in the ABJ, Gov. Kathy Hochul wants New York State to be the east coast Mecca of off-shore wind power. She is willing to invest an additional $500 million in ports and manufacturing to do it. That’s $500 million over the current budget of $200 million. The story argues that companies that took a long view and invested in this technology may just have won.

Stefanik gets Trumpian boost
U.S. Rep Elise Stefanik (R-NY21, Schuylerville) may be on Donald Trump’s short list for vice president, the Daily Gazette says. This estimate comes from a fundraiser for Stefanik, the GOP House Conference Chair, held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Reportedly, the former president said that Stefanik could be president in six years. Trump has formed committees to run for president in 2024. The event raised $3.2 million for GOP campaign coffers, Stefanik said in a statement.

Adirondack schools use creative tech to teach
Indian Lake’s high school uses a mix of video clips and live, online instruction, to give students lessons in a subject not taught on campus: marine biology from Granville High School, a story in the Adirondack Explorer says. Given its small size, the high school uses distance learning to augment its courses. Indian Lake’s enrollment has fallen by more than 50 percent since since 1989 and has just 120 students in K-12 now.
