Big Lots coming to Queensbury
Big Lots, the discount chain store, plans to fill a retail space on Route 9 in Queensbury, the Post-Star says. If approved, it will take a space near Recovery Sports Grill, Dollar Tree and Tractor Supply, at 751 Upper Glen St., a plaza owned by Nigro Companies.
Mechanicville will keep commissioners
It was over before it began. The committee looking to change the Mechanicville charter voted not to at one of their first meetings, the Times Union is reporting. The cost of other governmental systems might be too high, some on the committee said. Committee members also cite the problems with the commission system—the long hours needed to be a commissioner for low pay, for instance—but the cost of hiring people to do the job turned them away, the story says.
Troubles with short term permits in Lake Placid

The invasive round goby fish has wreaked havoc in the Great Lakes and, swimming the “superhighway” NYS canal system, has spread toward Lake Champlain, the Adirondack Explorer is reporting. Environmental leaders say the fish is close to entry, and they want to keep the canal lock that connects the Hudson River to the lake closed this year, and they have asked the governor for help.
