Four senior living properties change hands
Peregrine Senior Living has purchased, through LLCs that they own, four Capital Region senior living facilities. The total price is almost $54 million, the Albany business journal is reporting. The LLCs on Peregrine’s side have bought the properties from LLC’s connected to a Chicago-based company, Ventas. Peregrine had filed requests to take over management earlier this year with the New York State Department of Health, the story says.
Lake George Village studying dissolution
For a third time, the Lake George Village board will consider dissolution, becoming a part of the Town of Lake George, the Post-Star is reporting. Board members voted to apply for a state grant that would cover 50% of the $50,000 cost of the study. The town and village would split the other half. The study would begin in February. The dissolution would become a ballot question during the March 2023 village election, the story says.
Moreau passes moratorium
The Moreau Town Board passed Local Law 7, a six-month moratorium on all subdivision construction, and all projects not yet fully approved by various land use boards, within a half-mile of an existing sewer main along Route 9 near Northway Exit 17, the Post-Star is reporting. Supervisor Todd Kusnierz says the town board needs time to review the town Comprehensive Land Use Plan, the story says.
New trash hauler in Saratoga Springs
Saratoga Springs is parting ways with Casella Waste Management and turning to County Waste & Recycling Services to haul away solid waste from the city’s transfer station. The change is effective Jan. 1, a story in the Daily Gazette says. Casella Waste Management, told the city it could no longer honor its contract that should have run for another year, due to cost increases in fuel, disposal, insurance and fleet maintenance, Public Works Commissioner Anthony "Skip" Scirocco told the council at their meeting Tuesday, the story says.
New York is the biggest loser
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate New York lost more residents, over 300,000, than any other state in the nation, a story in the Daily Gazette says. The country as a whole also grew at its slowest rate ever. Reduced immigration from other countries, a decreased birth rate and an increased death rate, all related to the COVID pandemic, slowed the country’s growth, the story says. The population grew just 0.1%, the story says.
Spa City engineer still fired
A former Saratoga Springs engineer lost his appeal to get his job back, the Times Union is reporting. A five-judge panel at the state Appellate Division's Third Judicial Department agreed with the city that Tim Wales’ 2019 firing was justified due to his “unprofessional, discourteous” manner, not because he failed to support the commissioner of Public Works in his reelection bid.
