Mackey Auto Group expands
Whalen Chevrolet in Greenwich is now owned by Mackey Auto Group, of Saratoga Springs, the fourth dealership Mackey has bought in three years, including Saratoga Ford and Saratoga Subaru in February 2019. In July 2020, they purchased Denecker Chevrolet in Middlebury, Vt., the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The Whalen Chevrolet’s 3.85 acre property includes a showroom, service center, body shop and storage building, the story says.
Add Moreau to the no pot list
The Town Board of Moreau plans to opt out of retail cannabis dispensaries in town. Like many municipalities, the town is waiting on the cannabis boards and regulations to be formed before they jump into the market, a story in the Post-Star says.
Incumbent Muller running for Supreme Court
Supreme Court Justice Robert Muller, whose district includes Saratoga County, has announced he is seeking re-election. Muller, 66, lives in Lake George and his chambers are in Warren County. His term ends in 2023, and he has served the 4th Judicial District, the largest in the state, since 2009. The former assistant district attorney said in a statement that he has presided over thousands of civil cases affecting individuals from all walks of life throughout the vastly diverse 11-county district. The announcement is in the Daily Gazette.
Two Saratoga Lake developments examined
A 32-home subdivision and a three-building, 29-unit apartment complex, on Saratoga Lake are under examination by the towns of Saratoga and Stillwater, the Times Union is reporting. Opponents say town officials make it difficult to voice concerns. Between COVID restricting attendance in meetings, and the lack of information about at least the project in Stillwater, some in the public are frustrated, the story says. In the meantime, forested hills around the lake are cleared and graded.
Ex-cop faces sentencing
Ex-Cohoes police officer Sean T. McKown will face sentencing in Essex County next week, a story in the Times Union says. McKown pleaded guilty on Aug. 10 last year to filing a false report and discharging a firearm. He had falsely claimed that a young Black man shot at him first. The story says he might receive probation including mental health checks
Ironman Task Force’s recommendations
The Ironman Task Force is working on recommendations to change the Ironman Lake Placid triathlon. Composed of local officials, citizens and business owners, the task force plans to make recommendations on how the race could be improved and if local officials should extend Lake Placid’s contract with Ironman beyond 2022, a story in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise says. The race has been run in July, during the area’s short summer tourist season. Among the recommendations, the task force is looking at road use during the race and during training and how to help local businesses that are disrupted when runners come to town but largely don’t participate in the town’s life.
