Qby: Quaker Road Hewitt’s property sold
Real estate investor Chris Long added a second Hewitt’s Garden Center property to his portfolio with the purchase of the regional chain’s 3.02 acre site on Quaker Road in Queensbury. The price was $2.5 million, a story in the Albany Business Journal says.
Shirt factory had suitor
Eric Unkauf has owned The Shirt Factory since its inception in 1999 and had never been approached to sell the building in Glens Falls until recently, the Post-Star reported this morning. Unkauf told the paper he did not fall for the suitor’s charms nor will he in the future, even for three times the money, he said.
Springs: Commissioner name mayor as target of ethics complaint
Saratoga Springs' Commissioner of Public Safety Robin Dalton has asked the city’s Ethics Board to rule on Mayor Meg Kelly’s behavior in office regarding activities starting about a year ago, the Times Union is reporting. Dalton says the mayor used her office and role at the top of her department to secure a $200,000 gift for the private Charlton School and acted to promote that school, at the expense of local public schools, in other ways, the story says.
DEC’s no-polystyrene proposal wins
New York State has approved a Department of Environmental Conservation proposal to limit the use and sale of polystyrene, a popular plastic in food preparation and distribution, the Adirondack Sun is reporting. “Effective Jan. 1, 2022, no covered food service provider or store (retail or wholesale) will be allowed to sell, offer for sale, or distribute disposable food service containers that contain expanded polystyrene foam in New York State,” the story says. The rule also applies to polystyrene loose-fill packing peanuts in the state. The official rule: “Six (6) NYCRR Part 353 will implement the prohibition on the sale and distribution of expanded polystyrene foam containers and loose-fill 'packing peanuts'."
