Manhattan Exchange restaurant expanding into Clifton Park
The owners of Schenectady’s Manhattan Exchange restaurant paid $545,000 for 857 Main St. in Clifton Park, and are planning to bring a restaurant to it, the Albany Business Journal says. The 2,400 square foot building on site is on the National Register of Historic Places and was a mill in the 1800s, the story says. The building had been a restaurant that closed during the pandemic and did not reopen.
NYS DOT to “reimagine” I-787
New York State’s Department of Transportation will “reimagine” I-787 in downtown Albany which splits the main body of the city from the Hudson River waterfront, the Albany Business Journal is reporting. The $5 million engineering feasibility study that will look at altering the highway, what the timeline would be, the cost estimate for it, and the potential economic and traffic impacts. The study was included as part of the $220 billion state budget that was just approved. A group has been studying the idea and proposed to turn a portion of the highway into a boulevard, connecting the highway more closely to the street grid, the story says.
Marine to celebrate 17th “Alive Day”
Marine sniper Eddie Ryan who was wounded by friendly fire in 2005 will celebrate his 17th “Alive Day” tomorrow, April 13. Ryan lives with his family in the town of Lake George where they moved in 2011 in order to be closer to the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany where Ryan goes to physical therapy three times a week. The family will celebrate at the Lake George Holiday Inn from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, a story in the Post-Star says.
Schuylerville Schools has new superintendent
Gregg Barthelmas was appointed on Monday by the Schuylerville Board of Education to serve as the next superintendent, the Daily Gazette is reporting. Barthelmas has been with the school system for 23-years and is currently the district’s director of Pupil Personnel Services. Barthelmas will begin on October 1 after a month as the deputy superintendent under Superintendent Ryan Sherman. Barthelmas’ initial salary will be $167,000 with a contract running through June 30, 2026, according to the district.
Democrat in Saratoga DA race says Heggen failed
Democrat Michael Philips who is challenging incumbent Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen, told the Times Union that Heggen mishandled the boating-while-intoxicated case that ended in the death of a 20-year-old last July 4 on Saratoga Lake. Philips says that Heggen lost the public trust when she allowed the boater to plead guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge and boating while intoxicated. Heggen said that she applied the highest level of wrongdoing that her office could prove.
