Cohoes Apartment redevelopment
Two buildings of 112 apartments at the Harmony Mills complex in Cohoes will get needed renovations after the owner secured a $22.5 million loan. The loan includes $17.4 million for refinancing the property and $5.1 million for construction. The buildings will be reconfigured into 167 units, a story in the Albany Business Journal says.
Empire State Youth Orchestra buys property
Empire State Youth Orchestra bought an 18,000 square foot building on property Scotia-Glenville to create a permanent home and rehearsal academy, the Albany Business Journal says. The orchestra’s nonprofit company paid $410,000 for the former St. Joseph's Parish School. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany was the previous owner. According to the story, the orchestra has no fully developed a plan, but the purchase is a first step.
South Glens Falls Schools envision many changes
The South Glens Falls school district will ask voters in May to approve a $33.6 million project that will see improvements everywhere but especially in the Oliver Winch Middle School and the athletic fields, a story in the Post-Star says. The Large Group Instruction Room at the middle school would become a theater space. They will also make changes to the lobby, restrooms, library, and classroom floors and ceilings. The project, Envision 2025, will add a multi-purpose turf field on the high school campus, along with many other changes and improvements, the story says.
Saratoga Lakeview Mobile Home Park owner evicts tenant
Lakeview Mobile Home Park tenant and local activist Angela Kaufman has been issued an eviction notice by the owner of the park, though the owner had said no one would be forced out for five years, the Times Union is reporting. Kaufman has been fighting park owner Michael Giovanone for months. Giovanone told the paper on Friday, that Kaufman has collected a list of rules infractions on the property from blocking traffic to save a tree to installing a new roof without a building permit all of which Kaufman can explain reasonably, the story says. Giovanone has plans to turn the park into a storage facility for boats and RVs.
Outside Magazine lists Empire State Trail Best of 25
New York’s Empire State Trail, a former train run that roughly follows interstates 87 and 90 through the state won top honors from Outside Magazine, the Times Union reported. Officials say that improvements are ot the 750 mile long trail are part of a concerted effort to turn the rail lines into usable space and economic development.
