Saratoga MLK Jr. Celebration Weekend
Greatest Love of All: Roots and Revolution of Black Women in Pop
to
SPAC Saratoga Performing Arts Center 108 Avenue of The Pines, New York 12866
MLK Saratoga's annual Dr. King Celebration Weekend offers a range of programming illuminating, amplifying, and reflecting on social, racial, and economic justice issues. Workshops, performances, lecture and panel discussions will engage community participants on many levels. This year’s theme explores and responds to Dr. King’s reflection, “Songs are the soul of a movement.”
Music and song give expression to pain and grief as well as joy, hope and the resilience of the human spirit. It has been three years since we have gathered in person for this annual tradition. We want to come together to grieve and heal, learn and grow, connect and celebrate. All events are free.
Saturday (1/14) 6:00 pm Greatest Love of All: The Roots & Revolution of Black Women in Pop: Yaddo artist, award-winning journalist and author of Shine Bright: A Very Personal History of Black Women in Pop, Danyel Smith, will be in conversation with Skidmore’s Dr. Emmanuel Balogun & Dr. Tammy Owens, with a special performance by artist/poet D. Colin.
