A dumpster on Glen Street. A dumpster on Park Street. A couple curbs cuts to be used as driveways. They all became part of the "roll call vote" by the Glens Falls Common Council on Tuesday Nov. 10, a regular occurance where numerous items are voted upon en masse.
The dumpsters and curb cuts are "encroachment" permits and are voted on by the council when a private actor wants to use public property.
Another such item was closure of Ridge Street in front of the Glens Falls Housing Authority property earlier this week as VMJR Companies of Glens Falls connected water and sewer lines to the Cronin High Rise building at 43 Ridge St.
The plan included detours and help from police to direct traffic. On Monday, the road will be closed again as the pavers work to repair the street after the installation.
The dumpsters mean four fewer parking spaces in downtown Glens Falls.
A dumpster will occupy the space outside 237 Glen St. from now until May 30 next year as V&H Construction works on the former Evergreen Bank building at that location. 237 Glen LLC owns the property.
The other dumpster, what is called a "construction hamper" in council documents, will sit at 100 Park St., using three parking spaces near Park Street's intersection with Glen Street. It will be used to collect the debris of demolition as Glen Street Associates demolish the former Subway/Quiznos and dentist office building at 100 Glen St. The use of the spaces was approved for three months. The associates are responsible for snow removal around it, if needed.
Other notes: curb cuts on 30 First St. and on 18 Kenworthy Ave. will become driveways for residential buildings.
