Success at Glens Falls Earth Day, organizers say

From a press release: Over 20 environmental organizations and sustainably oriented businesses exhibited at this year’s Glens Falls Earth Day Celebration, sponsored by Sustainable PR, City of Glens Falls, and the Crandall Public Library. They brought with them interactive learning activities that were engaging for all ages, and the variety captured the interest of over 100 community members.
“Our Earth Day planning team has received nothing but praise for this year’s lineup,” said Tony DeFazio. “We wanted to expand our reach this year and incorporate more family-friendly exhibits to broaden our audience and that’s what we did.”
In addition to eco-conscious exhibitors, the event marked the grand opening of the city’s vertical farm. Dr. Jeff Flagg, the city’s economic development director, gave tours of the facility to more than 50 people, including representatives from Saga City, Glens Falls’ sister city in Japan.
Crandall Library’s portion of the event also drew a significant number of participants. Their DIY eco-friendly household cleaner workshop was completed by 111 people; the Seed Library’s grand-opening signed up 39 gardeners; and 15 pallets of household electronics were collected during the E-Recycling event.
The success this year has the Earth Day planning group looking to next year’s event. “We have
already been approached by several groups wishing to get involved in the organization of the
event,” says Lydia Miner, account executive at Sustainable PR who spearheaded this year’s
event planning. “Our organizers are already in conversation about how we can improve the
event and expand our reach even further next year.”
Food Trucks approved for LARAC festival in June
The Glens Falls Common Council approved permits for food trucks (technically: Mobile Food Unit Licenses) at the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council festival, June 17 and 18 in City Park. Approved were:
- Keith Behney, doing business as "Sherri's Crab Cakes," of Camp Hill, Penn.
- Rotary Club of Glens Falls, of Glens Falls.
- Kurt Bauerschmidt, doing business as "Wild Bills Soda," of Waterford, N.Y.
