An idea has taken shape to bring job seekers to Lake George, the Queen of American Lakes, and hope the beauty of the region and discussions with local employers will be enough to get them to stay and work. To sweeten the pot: shuttle service for the summer between the Albany region and Lake George may be included.
“If they want to work here but transportation is a barrier, the shuttle service would be provided by Tech Valley Shuttle (and likely funded by local employers),” Liza Ochsendorf wrote in an email to FoothillsBusinessDaily.com. She is the Warren County Director of Employment & Training Administration.
To measure interest, the county in conjunction with other businesses and organizations will bus potential employees to the lake and woo them with natural beauty and friendly discussions.
“May 8th will include some sightseeing, a Lake George Steamboat cruise, and meeting local employers, current LG area employees, and community members,” Ochsendorf wrote.
The Great Escape, Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center, and the Lake George Steamboat company have been struggling to find enough people to fill the jobs needed for a successful summer, a second summer in a row without the international students who would arrive on j1 work visas to fill roles.
"We are going to romance them next weekend, help them feel welcome here because Lake George is in their backyard too," Ochsendorf wrote. The county plans to issue a press release on this next week.
