Broadway Grind opens in former Pallette space
The Broadway Grind has opened at 493 Broadway in Saratoga Springs, the location of the former Pallette community and coffee shop. Matt and Kelly Groff, who own Kelly’s Kitchen Bakery and Cafe in Wilton, are the new proprietors. Catherine Hover sold the coffee shop to foucus on the Pallette Community networking group. She owns the Saratoga Paint and Sip Studio on Henry Street.
Bad Authors subject you to their stuff on Thursday
From an announcement: The authors of “Have a Very Bad Day” (Richard Lovrich) and “I Know This Looks Bad” (J.P.V. Oliver, gentleman) will hold forth on Thursday May 26 at the Dutcher Community Room in the Saratoga Springs Public Library, 12 - 2 p.m.
Water main work began this week
From a press release: Department of Public Works Commissioner Jason Golub announced that construction on the Water Main Replacement Project will begin on May 23, 2022 to upgrade four and six inch cast iron mains with new eight inch ductile iron water mains.
Water main work will occur on the North East side of the City on Clement, State, First, and Alger Streets, along with Greenfield Avenue. The locations were determined through a multi-year engineering water model assessment that includes four phases throughout the City. The project identified areas with low flow and pressure due to undersized mains. Upgrades being constructed this year, as part of phase 1, were designed by Creighton Manning engineering.
Construction work is being completed by Carver Construction of Altamont, NY for $1,934,435. Funding for the Water Main Replacement Project is covered within the water portion of the capital budget.
Shelters of Saratoga’s “One Fine Day” Fundraiser
From a press release: The fundraiser is presented by Dan and Kristen Bobear. The program features guest speaker John Rolerad, a resident of the organization's supportive housing program. John overcame homelessness, and now spends his time preparing meals for current residents of SOS's emergency shelter.
Guests will enjoy an afternoon of delectable food by Prime II at Saratoga National Golf Club, music, and a silent auction. Lifestyles of Saratoga Pop-Up Shop will be available for attendees to purchase apparel, jewelry, and accessories during the event. Lifestyles of Saratoga will donate all sale proceeds to Shelters of Saratoga.
Reservations start at $125/person and can be made online at www.sheltersofsaratoga.org. The deadline to register is May 31, 2022.
Proceeds raised at One Fine Day help provide outreach, supportive services, shelter, and housing services to individuals facing homelessness in our region. The event committee hopes to exceed the $53,000 goal to support homeless care services provided at Shelters of Saratoga.
Springs Dems searching for DPW Candidates
From a press release: The City of Saratoga Springs Democratic Committee is seeking and accepting applications for a special election for Commissioner of Public Works candidate to be on the November 2022 election ballot serving out the second half of a two-year term resulting from the passing of Anthony “Skip” Scirocco. Through the end of the calendar year, the City Council has made a temporary appointment with Jason Golub.
The Public Works department is responsible for the repair, replacement, and maintenance of all the public ways, streets, highways, drinking water, and sewer lines in the City of Saratoga Springs. The term for this part-time position is paid an annual salary of $14,500 and will begin on January 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023.
The Democratic Nomination and Recruitment subcommittee will help identify the most qualified candidate to be on the November ballot through an application and nomination by the full Democratic Committee. It will be this nominee whose name goes on the November ballot.
