Matt McCabe Day, Feb. 20, 2021
Caffe Lena, the famed concert venue on Phila Street in Saratoga Springs, will host an online tribute Saturday evening to the legendary Saratogian, owner of Saratoga Guitar, and former Saratoga Springs Commissioner of Finance, Matt McCabe. The city officially named Feb. 20, 2021 as Matt McCabe Day in January.
“Matt was always a kind and generous neighbor, and supported many individuals and organizations, including Caffe Lena, through his mentorship and his donations of instruments and equipment,” the venue’s website says.
The tribute is free and live on YouTube, Saturday Feb. 20, 7 p.m. It will be hosted by McCabe’s longtime friend, Rick Bolton, the Caffe Lena site says. Saratoga Living ran a great obituary and tribute.
Outdoor seating may reopen in SpaCity
Temporary outdoor seating in Saratoga Springs will likely commence March 15 and run through Oct. 31 under a resolution discussed but not voted on during Tuesday evening’s Saratoga Springs City Council meeting. Commissioner of Accounts, John Franck, plans to bring the resolution back to the council at the next meeting after committees review it. Outdoor seating normally starts April 15.
The schedule could be extended, as a similar measure was extended four times last fall. And it could be shortened if the economy fully reopens and more tourists make it to the area.
“I think we have to leave it flexible because if the track totally opens and everything totally opens...then there may be traffic issues and things like that, so we might have to pull back on it,” Franck said.
Also at the council meeting, the city agreed to suspend the Saratoga County Arts Council rent for six months, until June 30, 2021. The resolution approving this passed without comment.
It's official: the Bonnie View Motel to become a residence
The Bonnie View Motel, at 4654 Lake Shore Dr. on Lake George’s Huddle Bay, will be demolished and turned into a single family property.
The Bonnie View sold last December to a man from Rhode Island for $4.4 million according to a story in the Albany Business review.
Bonnie View, LG, LLC, the company listed on town documents, plans to raze the motel structures on the 5.3 acre plot and build a single family residence with a guest cottage, lakeside pavilion building, boathouse/recreation building and a tennis court, town documents say. This is contingent upon various reviews in the Town of Bolton. They are being represented by Kirsten Catellier of Studio A architecture of Saratoga Springs.
The Huddle Restaurant in Bolton may get a second floor apartment
Robert O’Keefe, owner of The Huddle restaurant building, at 4947 Lake Shore Dr., in downtown Bolton seeks to add a second floor over the restaurant and use the space as a residential apartment. The plan also includes alterations to exterior finishes, windows and doors and a covered patio extension and stairwell addition and green space, planning documents say. They will be represented by AJA Architecture of Glens Falls at the Town of Bolton Planning Board meeting.
