Dalton running for mayor of Saratoga Springs
Robin Dalton has confirmed this morning that she is running for mayor of Saratoga Springs on a third-party ticket. She says that party politics plays too important a role in the function of the city, and she is looking to change that. Dalton is the current Commissioner of Public Safety for the city. This is a developing story and more will be coming.
Applications sought for Occupancy Tax promotions
Warren County is accepting applications for organizations or events that are seeking funding for promotion through the Warren County Occupancy Tax program. The county takes applications each year, and the winning applications are picked by the county’s Occupancy Tax Coordination Committee and Board of Supervisors, Don Lehman explained in an email. He is the Director of Public Affairs for Warren County.
The funding is used by local businesses to create and promote events that will draw people to Warren County.
Americade Inc used money from this program to create and promote Lake George Winterfest that ran in February. The company this week said it would return $40,000 in profits to the county. The company had received that amount through the occupancy tax program. (See our coverage here.)
Past grants have supported events such as the Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival, the Americade motorcycle rally, the NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball tournament, the Warrensburg Bike [bicycle] Rally, and the Hyde Collection's marketing and promotions, among many other events and promotions.
The Occupancy tax is a countywide 4% tax on hotel, motel and bed-and-breakfast rooms.
The county asks businesses to email grantl@warrencountyny.gov with questions. Find the applications for the program here.
