Warren County GOP
The Warren County GOP was supposed to vote today to pick leadership for the coming year, but it has been postponed due to COVID exposure at the venue chosen for the vote.
A source says the race is between Frank Thomas and Rachel Seeber who “challenges the status quo.” If she wins, she becomes the first woman in the position.
William VanNess, the chair who took over earlier this year when Michael Grasso stepped down, confirmed that Thomas is running but said Seeber has not yet thrown her hat in the ring, and VanNess said he does not know if she will.
He said the date and location of the vote is still in the planning process, and the vote might be held via zoom or as a mixed meeting with people at a venue and on zoom.
Saratoga Springs votes to keep its charter
Not only did voters in SpaCity hold onto the charter form of government on election day in November, the official results, which include mail-in and absentee ballots, extended the lead by about 100. Residents of the city were asked whether to keep the city's current form of government in which commissioners are elected to specific roles in the government: public safety, finance and others. A vote "yes" to change would have created a board that would hire a city manager to be a central administrator of the city.
There was a 10 point spread on election day (roughly, 45% to 55%), but the absentee ballots were split almost evenly, 1,534 for the change to 1,632 to remain the same (or 48% to 53%).
Final tally: 6,808 to change the charter; 8,066 to keep it.
