This weekend Saratogians or the tourists can try out a new way to hop from bar-to-bar and help a good cause. Capital City Brew Cycle has added a new pedal-bus to its fleet.
This one takes pedalers around downtown Saratoga Springs with stops at three bars along the way. The tours last two hours and stop at Druthers Brewing Company, The Local and Barrelhouse. Officials said they may be adding another stop soon.
It starts and ends at the West Side Sports Bar and Grill, 112 Congress Street in Saratoga Springs. Owner Dave Harmon said he was happy to help a small business out.
“We’re pretty accommodating,” Harmon said. “I think it’ll drive some business our way.”
It was an idea seven-years in the making. Finding the right insurance company to cover the company was the kink in the chain, the owners said, adding that the pandemic also caused delays.
The fourteen seat bike can be rented individually or by the group, and May 28, they are donating proceeds to Kelly’s Angel’s an area nonprofit company that supports children in families who have lost a parent to cancer. They aim to give hope, and smiles, to children who have suffered the trauma.
Mark Mulholland, president and founder of Kelly’s Angels, said the timing is perfect for the donation. He said his group gave $24,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors today.
“It’s gratifying when others jump in and embrace our goal of bringing smiles to local kids who’ve lost a parent to cancer,” Mulholland wrote in a text.
According to the brew cycle website, tours are booked online, and riders are encouraged to arrive early and have a drink at the bar while waiting. Bike helmets are available upon request, but not required. Pricing is $28 per seat for a two-hour tour. There is no drinking on the pedal bus itself.
