North Creek Ski Bowl Disaster Resiliency: Town of Johnsburg Awarded Federal Investment to Mitigate Disaster Risk
From the Lake Champlain–Lake George Regional Planning Board
The Town of Johnsburg was recently awarded $285,600 in grant funding by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) to support implementation of the North Creek Ski Bowl Disaster Resiliency project.
Nearly two years ago, communities across the North Country were bombarded by the “Halloween Storm” that dropped five inches of rain within a 24-hour period.
The Town of Johnsburg was among the affected communities and lost or sustained heavy damage to all 28 of its local roads when local drainage structures became overwhelmed by the intense rainfall.
The Federal EDA funding will be used to design and construct improvements of the stormwater drainage and conveyance systems at the North Creek Ski Bowl Park.
Chris Belden, Economic Development Coordinator for the LCLGRPB indicated, “The funding announcement by EDA is an example of how targeted investments in climate resiliency can enhance local economic development opportunities and improve the quality of critical infrastructure.”
Saratoga Hospital Gala raises over $360,292
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY, Aug.12, 2021—Saratoga Hospital’s 39th Annual Gala raised $360,292 for the hospital’s Saratoga Community Health Center.
The results, the fourth highest in Gala history, reflect the community’s commitment to the Community Health Center and the high-quality, affordable care the center provides.
Presented by Julie & Co. Realty, LLC, and Bonacio Construction Inc., the Aug 4 event featured a “school spirit” theme and more than 100 enticing auction items. Donors supported the Gala—and the work of the Community Health Center—via in-person and mobile bidding.
The only facility of its kind in greater Saratoga, the center provides primary care, dental, behavioral health and addiction medicine services to patients regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. Demand for care continues to grow, resulting in more than 25,000 patient visits each year.
